WHAT IS PLACES PUBLIQUES?

Places Publiques is a European project for artistic and civic exchanges designed and run by the De Bas Étages Association for young people.

Each year, through artistic performances in the streets, it invites 20 young people (aged between 18 and 30) to reflect on and question the notion of the ‘public square’.

Over the course of two one-week exchanges, accompanied by professional artists, the young people engage in a collective creative process. They share their perspectives to create a show that will be performed in the public space.

Young people transform the public space into an open stage where artistic dialogue and civic reflection come together.

INTERCULTURAL EXCHANGES

Places Publiques is the result of transnational artistic encounters.

Every year, young people aged between 18 and 30 from different countries come together to create an artistic form that questions the public space.

A TOOLBOX

Places publiques is also a resource platform with practical information sheets on running debates, creating in public spaces, monitoring and organising a European project, and so on. Additional tools will be proposed through every edition !

CALL FOR VOLUNTEERS

2025 edition

2 WEEKS – 2 COUNTRIES (France, Dijon / Germany, Mainz)

20 PARTICIPANTS (10 French / 10 German)

THE PROJECT: to take part in a Franco-German artistic and civic exchange with the aim of creating a show for the public space.

If you’re aged between 18 and 30 and want to take part in a European artistic creation, don’t hesitate to apply!

DATES: Mainz from 20 to 27 April 2025 + Dijon from 11 to 18 May 2025

Transport, accommodation and catering costs are covered.

A basic knowledge of English is required. No prior artistic experience is necessary.

DE BAS ÉTAGES

Founded in 2013, De Bas Étages is a cultural association whose project revolves around the public space. Based in Dijon, the association aims to welcome, support and build with those who create artistic forms to be performed in the street.

At the heart of our commitment is the desire to defend a local art form that questions the spaces in which it is performed. With this in mind, the association has chosen to set up part of its project in a highly symbolic space: the school playground. It becomes both a place of artistic residence throughout the season and a performance space for Le Balabar festival, held every July.

Thanks to its strong local roots and the development of a network of European partners, De Bas Étages is delighted to be working with artists and organisations – whether in the cultural, educational, social or medical fields – who place artistic experimentation and encounters with others at the heart of their approach, in order to collectively develop an inclusive and fair project.
